Fazilat Soukhakian is an Iranian artist and photographer whose life has always been defined by politics. Fascinated by human interest stories and what they tell us about society, she started her career as a photojournalist for news agencies in Iran. By witnessing the struggles of people around her from all walks of life, her work started evolving from an observer to an active participant in trying to highlight and deal with the political and social issues of her surroundings through visual art. She considers herself a visual storyteller who observes and records her concerns regarding social and political issues that surround her as a means for social change and justice. Since 2011, she is working out of the United States and her most current work keeps exploring the issues of gender inequality, gender roles, social justice, the struggle of opposition, and cultural misrepresentations.
