My name is Gabriele Puglisi and I come from Caltanissetta, in Sicily. Here is my biography, but I you want to ask me other things please feel free to contact me.
My first contacts with the photos started when I was a child thanks to my father, who is an artist and who let me use his cameras during our journeys around Italy, but I got closer to photography during teenagehood when I follow a photography cours at high school; since those few hours weren’t enough for me I asked Mr. Augusto Sarpente ( a popular photographer, who has published his photos in many automobile magazines) to become his assistant. Thanks to him I learned how to put together the technology of digital cameras with the tradition of analog photographers.
Unfortunately he died and I continued my learning as a self-taught person throught books, magazines and watching many interviews, like the ones of the photographer Tano D’Amico who helped me realize the importance of black and white as a mean for a more conceptual photography, and I stopped using colours, to connect my photos and my poems (I published my first collection of poems named “Sono stato gabbato dal profumo delle rose” edited by Albatros group in 2011 when I was 18).
Lately, I presented my works to many photography experts, above all Oliviero Toscani, who liked my photos; I was also an Ambassador for the Arte e Laguna Prize (an important cultural and artistic prize in the city of Venice).
To me, photos are a form of arts, and as it they have to communicate a message, to transmit the history and the souls of the subjects. Each photo is a self portrait; mines are like experiments, with different main characters, such as landscape, people portraits, architectures and so one, through which I want to express my vision of the world.
