About Herman Wouters
I am photographer that makes quiet photographs of quiet things.
These things often have certain sculptural qualities.
I take pleasure in the poetry of unintended coincidences that reality has to offer.
Because sometimes, on a good day, when concentration is right and you are almost able to see in slow-motion, you may notice the plain sense of things clearly.
You may find big events in small nothings.
Then the game to play is to find out which image is compelling enough to give a second life as a picture that can stand on its own; to mark the difference between "the nothing that is not there and the nothing that is".
By making a photograph you lay a certain form and structure on life.
Maybe this is all about understanding, organizing and editing the chaos in the world around me and to see what clarity my pictures might bring.
I consider myself primarily a documentary photographer but my work may fleet at the intersection of documentary, art, portrait and corporate photography.
Regularly I publish magazines in the diaristic mode.
