About Irene Reti

For me photography is about cultivating and sharing awe in a time of uncertainty and grief. I believe that Black and White photography, with its potent and poetic nature, is particularly powerful at conveying awe.

My roots in landscape photography extend back to childhood camping trips, where I photographed the American West with a Brownie camera. Later I earned a degree in environmental studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, honed my craft as a writer and small press feminist book publisher, and devoted myself to a career in oral history. I synthesize my photography with storytelling through publishing photobooks. My work is recognized by the North American Nature Photography Association, the Natural Landscape Photography Awards, the Lucie Awards, and Yosemite Renaissance, and has appeared in The Sun Magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle, The New York Times California Today, LensWork, and other publications.
