I am primarily a poet, and wearing that hat I have produced work that has garnered a Guggenheim Fellowship, two NEA Individual Artists grants, and seven published volumes of poetry. I have always taken pictures, and was fascinated as a young man by the work of such artists as Walker Evans, Eugene Meatyard, Helen Levitt, and Duane Michaels. In the past five years I have become more and more serious about taking pictures.
