About John Sarsgard

My personal work involves people and their connection to place or to something else they have in common. My first solo exhibition, "Grand Central Portraits: People in a New Town Square," was posed photographs of strangers in New York's Grand Central Terminal. My book "Like Musical Instruments: 83 Contemporary American Poets," published in 2014, includes posed portraits made in collaboration with famous (one Pulitzer winner and another runner-up) and unknown poets alongside one poem by each of them. Currently I am photographing street life in New York City and Havana.

My commercial work is almost entirely traditional black and white portraiture. My favorite expression of that work is platinum/palladium prints.
