I am a Cuban artist based in Belgium. After earning a literature and English language degree from the University of Havana, I later graduated in photography from the International Institute for Journalism in Havana. Since then, contemporary photography has been my primary artistic medium.
My work explores themes of cultural heritage, migration, identity, and legacy. I often incorporate self-reference, not just as a storyteller but as an active part of the narrative.
Over the years, my work has been exhibited at major international events, including the Africa Photo Fair (curated by Aida Muluneh), Paris Photo, AIPAD New York, and PhotoEspaña Madrid. I have participated in exhibitions such as Diaspora Cuba (Bamako Encounters, curated by Simon Njami), La collection photographique de la Fnac (Mois de la Photo à Paris, curated by Laura Serani), and shows at Robert Mann Gallery (New York), Bozar (Brussels), and the Fine Arts Museum (Havana). My work is part of collections at the Museum of Fine Arts (Houston), Albertina Museum (Vienna), Pinacoteca do Estado (São Paulo), FNAC Photographic Collection (Paris), and others worldwide.
My photography has been featured in books such as " Regards - Un siècle de photographie" (Gallimard Editions, 2024), " Navigating the Waves: Contemporary Cuban Photography" (Yale University Press, 2024), and "Open Maps: Contemporary Latin American Photography" (Lunwerg Editions, 2005). In 2003, Viggo Mortensen and Pilar Pérez published a monograph of my work, "Trance" (Perceval Press).
