About Kat Kaye

I explore traditional gender roles and cultural expectations through the subtext of my imagery. I capture many moments of introspection punctuated by occasional uproars of catharsis and emotional exaltation. I am fascinated by people and the motivations behind their actions. I share the elements of what it means to me to be a woman and aim to imbue the women in my work with a silent yet powerful sense of strength. Fashion is visible in much of my work but it isn’t the work itself. I’m most concerned with the individual who sits before my camera as I lay waiting to capture an internal movement, be it a thought that exists outside the realm of superficiality or a true feeling. I find that beauty exists within all elements of life and aim to extract and explore that with my camera.

I'm a Los Angeles based photographer. I've studied darkroom processes in both color and black and white printing, in addition to digital design. I'm a graduate of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the University of California, San Diego.
