Kayla Story was born in a generic military hospital in Washington State and moved to a new base with her mother every two years of her childhood. Forever curious about the revolving door of people somehow just outside of reach, her work became an ambition to understand dissonance in the human emotional landscape. Her work focuses on how our subjective, and often fickle, individual perceptions effect relationships built between culture, community, family, place, and ultimately the construction of self. She received a BFA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago in 2011 and currently works as a photography assistant in Madison, WI. She is also pursuing an MFA at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a concentration in photography, printmaking, and installation. Recently she has been awarded a CSA grant through the Art + Literature Library in Madison, WI to create a set of 61 new works and began as an editorial assistant at Aint-Bad an independent photography publisher.
