About Kelly Schottler

My name is Kelly Schottler and I'm a lifestyle photographer/photojournalist living in St. Joseph, MO- a smaller city about an hour north of Kansas City. I've been a photographer for as long as I can remember. My dad introduced me to the camera when I was about eight years old and I was learning to develop my own film and prints long before the arrival of the digital age.

I graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2003 and my education not only gave me a wonderful technical foundation but also helped to shape my creative eye. That seems like a long time ago now but I still love to read and learn about photography and advancements in the industry as much as I can. Before I moved to St. Joseph from Kansas City about eight months ago and started my own business doing photography full-time here, I was the in-store photographer at TIVOL Jewelers, a prestigious, 100-year-old jewelry store in KC.

Here in St. Joe you kind of have to do a little bit of everything, so I do a lot of weddings, family portraits and events, as well as some commercial photography. I'm also working on starting a community darkroom here and beginning to teach photography classes at a small local art school. I live with my fiancé Brent and our three dogs and we're currently planning our wedding for next summer.
