About Leonie Scholtz

Leonie Scholtz was born in Pretoria in 1957. After a successful school career she went on to study medicine and in 1980 qualified as a medical doctor. Thereafter she specialised in radiology at the University of Pretoria. In 1993 she founded her own private practice, and is also an Honorary Professor of Radiology at her alma mater.

In 2012, Leonie was runner up in the South African Medical Association photography competition and won in 2014.
In 2013 she won her 1st international award when she won a medal at the Global Arctic Awards Competition. Her photograph of arctic terns fighting was exhibited throughout Europe and Asia at multiple exhibitions. She was a finalist in the 2020 Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards.
