About Marcellus Bonow-Manier

My work centers on documenting people, their presence, and the universal emotions we all share. Through various photographic approaches, I strive to capture moments that might otherwise go unnoticed, conveying a sense of the ethereal. I create my own worlds and reinterpret what I see, often gravitating towards the surreal and ephemeral in my street, documentary, and art-based photography. While my street photography is more of a meditative practice, my primary long-term documentary focus is on Seattle fashion.
Seattle's fashion scene, characterized by upcycling, reworking, embracing vintage and thrift culture, and promoting slow fashion, captivates me. By documenting this, I aim to learn more about extending the life of textiles and highlight the artistry inherent in sustainable fashion practices within Seattle.
My motivation stems from the ongoing efforts to combat the textile waste generated by fast fashion. Outside of photography, I work in the clothing rental business as a liquidation manager, focusing on sustainable exit strategies for clothing.
