Margaret León is a pseudonym for Santos Álvarez León (Algeciras, 1972) and Marga Guinea (Madrid, 1965).
Santos Álvarez León combines street and documentary photography to create her own imaginary world where she can explore and show how unreal day to day life can be.
Her photos have classical references and at the same time she is interested in
experimenting with collage and introducing works of art in her images to give shape to her way of seeing.
She took part in Fiebre Photobook Market 2022 in Madrid with the zine “Half a Melon”, she received an Honorable Mention in the IPA awards 2022 with the project "The Visitor”, she was a finalist in Women Street Photographers in 2020 and her chosen work was shown in the Trieste Photo Days in Italy and got the Silver Medal in the Paris Street Photography Awards 2018 in the category of Beach&Pool.
Marga Guinea studied at the Algeciras College of Art in Spain.
At the beginning of her artistic activity her main influence was the world of comics. Moving on later to oil paintings.
Shortly afterwards, due to her interests in the fields of decorations and crafts she changed her focus to collage, both as sculpture or picture where she places famous and classical works in contemporary and surreal situations.
She produces a lot of work and her latest exhibitions are “Papeles Sur del Sur” solo exhibiton December 2022. Diputación de Cádiz, “Hache Dos O - Agua Viva”, solo exhibition November 2022 in the Centro Documental José Luis Cano.
