Matt (b. 1979, UK) works freelance as a photographer in the UK. He spent much of his youth living abroad, before studying modern languages at university in the UK. He's always been interested in how we interact with one another, and capturing those moments of honesty in everyday life. Our social tendencies, inclinations, actions, mistakes and rituals are an endless source of intrigue, as they reveal and expose aspects of our characters that are so familiar.
Through his languages he has discovered several aspects of foreign cultures, but it is really through photography that he's grown to explore them deeper. He is drawn to people and finding the beauty in the everyday aspects of life on the street, wherever that may be. There is an aesthetic to be found in the most mundane of actions, and it is through these vignettes of routine that we discover and unravel a culture or community.
In 2015-2016 he spent a year photographing the backstage life of London theatrical productions and has published his first book, Curtain Call, featuring portraiture and reportage photos from the project.
