Self-trained photographer, autodidact mostly.
Born and raised in the Bay Area. 5th + generation Californian. An uncle came to California in 1845, eventually was considered one of the founders of Santa Cruz, CA. I was in a stroller at Mario Sauvio's free speech talks at UCB in 60s.
Early
Did work on jr high school year book, had darkroom at home in 4th grade for my pinhole cameras. Did photos and videos for high school bands, theatre work as stage management in high school for drama and beauty pageants, ran 200' tile mural project for jr high school. dropped out at 16 and moved to LA at 17.
Middle
Got jobs running used, darkroom, and film/processing/repair dept at Franks Highland Park Camera at 17. Later worked a few years at Freestyle Photo as one of two store clerks at the time. Shot street photo style for years as I lived in Hollywood. Moved back to the Bay Area, selling my equipment to live. Worked 20+ jobs (including cab driver) as I worked through community college to get into 4 year program in Chemistry and Biology.
Later
Bought an old used 6x6 and started shooting film. Worked in chemistry/biology for 20yrs. Laid off and unable to find something close to what I had, I bought a scanner and began scanning my old Kodachromes and my by now GIANT collection of medium format film work shot from 1992-present while I work crappy healthcare-less benefit-less temp/contract jobs.
Current
Looking for ideas and thoughts on how to best get my hollywood work out. Looking to find options and opportunities for my current work.
