Although the arts had played many significant roles in her life, Merima studied biochemistry before she committed to photography full-time. Originally from Bosnia, her family came to the United States in 1994 during the Bosnian War after receiving asylum by the US.
Now as a scientist turned artist, Merima lives in Carlsbad, CA with her husband and work as a portrait and wedding photographer in Southern California.
