About Mikael Johansson

Mikael Johansson is a Swedish photographer and visual artist working between New York and Stockholm.

Mikael’s dedication and vivid approach to photography comes from a childlike curiosity for the medium. Growing up documenting life in rural Sweden, his passion for photography grew when attempting to replicate ads from skateboard magazines as a teenager. Mikael attended University of Cumbria where he studied Contemporary Art & Photography, learning traditional art techniques, as well as a conceptual, project-based approach to photography as a medium.

Inspired by the authenticity in visual documentation of subcultures, Mikael often puts focus on the individual in his work. Bringing together a raw and organic style with a thorough, yet impromptu approach. He can conceptualize a project to create a unique look and an elevated, personal result. Mikael has become a sought after photographer for his unique energy and great visual talent. His client list to date includes, DKNY, H&M, AMI Paris, AllSaints, Mango, Mejuri and Amazon among many others.

Mikael’s work has been shown in exhibitions in cities including Newcastle, London, Barcelona, New York and Athens.
