About Nasrah Omar

Nasrah Omar is an interdisciplinary artist primarily working with photography and photographic processes, she was born in India and is based in Lenapehoking (Queens, NY). Using photography as a conduit towards world-making, her work interlaces layered experiences of the South Asian diaspora, ritual, folklore, material culture and technology to construct affirming, de-colonial realms. Her photos probe narratives of visibility, connection and regeneration with the cultivation of paracosms towards healing. Nasrah's practice involves expansive approaches to storytelling, mediated through carefully crafted, lurid tableaus.

Nasrah's work has been exhibited in group shows at Pioneer Works, The Photographers’ Gallery, PH Museum, ICP, Houston Center for Photography, La MaMa Galleria and ChaShaMa. She was a recipient of the 2022 Google Image Equity Fellowship. Her work has been published in Aperture, Booooooom, Der Greif and British Journal of Photography. Nasrah holds a BFA in Photography from School of Visual Arts.
