About Paula G. Cullison

A native New Yorker born of parents who immigrated from Italy, I developed a keen desire for travel at a young age. My father worked for 40 years as a pressman for the NYTimes; my mother was seamstress for fashion designers in the NYC garment industry. When I was a young child, my father converted a closet in our one-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn into a darkroom. He allowed me to stand at his side, as he worked his magic. Dad's prized possession was his 1939 Leica camera which he gave to me. I began to travel internationally as a college student in the 60s, and haven't stopped since (have been to 50 countries). After college graduation, I was selected by AIESEC to work in Swizerland. It wasn't until the early 2000's that I started to write and publish my internatioanl travel articles whcih included my photographs. Ten years ago, I decided to start exhibiting. Since then, I have been in over 80 art exhibits (some solo exhibits - another in 2023) - one was in the UAE.
I enjoy discussing my photography and my travels and have given numerous PowerPoint presentaions to college students and the general public. When we moved to Phoenix, Arizona, I took to hiking and 'fell in love' with the Grand Canyon - even hiked Rim to Rim in a day. A few years ago I created and curated In Celebration of Women (ICW) juried art exhibit which attracted record breaking attendance. I am curently forming a jury for ICW 2023 - Making HERstory. We will again select 30 AZ female artist
