Creek Portraits is a project set within the Austin, Texas Greenbelt. This patchwork of swimming holes and waterfalls serves as the city’s luscious green curtain from blooming high rises and elusive culture. I considered the importance of a place such as the Greenbelt and was particularly drawn to the ways in which people gather there. As I felt the identity of a rapidly growing city being shaped by an insatiable hunger for more, I centered my portraits on a reaction to this overstimulation. I scavenged the electric waters for bathers lurking in these secluded green places that intertwine throughout the concrete structure of the city, creating my own oasis filled with quiet moments of human connection.
