Legal Aliens in the Kingdom of Wonder

How long are you here for? Are you a teacher? These are some of the questions you will be asked by the westerners and Khmer alike when you first arrive in Battambang, Cambodia’s second largest city, a city with an ever-changing international community of legal aliens. These portraits present a cross section of some of the legal alien community who were living in Battambang, on my twelve-month working holiday there in 2015 - 2016. My experience as the outsider, feeling like I was always on show, inspired these portraits. Due to the rapid growth and opportunity for foreigners in Cambodia, these images seek to challenge the preconceived notion that most legal aliens in Cambodia are teachers.
