I tell you it’s story; Cuba 2007, at that time I began to think about leaving a graphic record of my network of family and friends, I thought I would portray them in their homes because that was where I thought it was best to reflect their real essence, I was also interested in leaving a photographic record of the time. I asked all the portrayed to take off their shoes and have them in their hands as a password to accept the project and jointly as a way to affiliate them all with my idea.
When I started taking the first pictures I discovered great economic and social differences between them, so I thought to put their feet on everyone's heads trying to "eliminate" or creatively disguise those inequalities, also as a symbolic representation of the Cuban reality where many people live. For 4 years, visit each house in me network of family and friends, visit many places in Cuba because some lived in cities, others in rural areas and some in places of difficult access. Take pictures in their homes to professionals, people without studies, artists, very simple people, people with good economic position and others very humble, men, women, children, adolescents, whites, blacks, etc.
All the photos as I mentioned were taken in the houses of the portrayed, the place in the house, the shoes and clothes that they wore, the positions they took, they were selections of each portrayed, I do not take part in these decisions, just portray what they offered me, the photos have zero intervention on my part unless it is to recompose them by placing the feet on the head of the portrayed and there write the name of each portrayed, otherwise there is total respect for every detail of the original images, which are reflections of reality without manipulation. However, during those 4 years, great changes occurred in my network of family and friends, my father died, other friends left, etc., etc. This project over time ended surpassing me emotionally and emotionally so I left it in 2010 and keep it in my photographic archive.
In this year 2019 I gathered the courage to face him again, I reviewed it and I got back, I suffered a lot seeing it again but I needed to "relive it", I should not abandon these people because of my fear to remember so many crossed moments.
Select 100 portraits of those that made up the project of the years 2007, 8, 9, 10. The 100 for several reasons is a very powerful number that strengthens my initial idea.
This project became an intimate study of Cuban society in those years.
Where you can study or just observe.
-100 intimate portraits of Cuban homes, you can see from this project within 100 Cuban homes of the time without censorship.
-100 portraits of Cubans of different genders, races, ages, etc.
-100 ways to show yourself inside their houses in an atmosphere of trust and intimacy, 100 shoes they had at those moments, 100 ways to projecting themselves.
-Etc…
The project synthesizes an intimate study of a society (the Cuban one) from the perspective of art, "re-establishing" a reality from the author's approach.
Note: For the production of this project I had the cooperation of:
Dannys Montes de Oca Moreda (Critic of art, curator, writer)
