East China is one of the most prosperous region and the most intensive area of petrochemical plants. Many chemical plants stands only several hundreds meters away from the residential district, and there is no obvious isolation belt between residential district and industrial district. “Cancer Villages” are not rare. The traditional farming and fishing lifestyle is fading away, and the effects of petrochemical plants are spreading. In the winter of 2013, people in my city bought bottled water in panic because the city river was polluted by chemical plants in the upstream. For many restriction, to take photos about the pollution in direct ways was not allowed.Until a few months later, I got chance to take some pictures about these plants from a long distance. During the past year, I have driven 20 thousand kilometers to seek the scene and take these images.
