Chimaera

CHIMAERA This series resulted from several photography sessions with two very talented young French artistes: a contortioniste and a butoh-dancer who came to Rotterdam to pose for me. Their bodies are amazing instruments. The faces and femininity are deliberately not shown in the photographs, only limbs, back, hair, throat. I am fascinated by the transformative potential of these bodies. At times they seem hardly human, are more reminiscent of insects, shells or fossils. As much of a mirage as a chimaera! The photographs were made between 2014 - 2017 and have been shown, interspersed with photographs from the Wata Leaf series, as the solo exhibition "Chimaera" in Huis Marseille Museum for Photography in Amsterdam in 2017.
