2018 marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up policy.
Today, China's GDP ranks second in the world.
The Chinese people are wealthier and are beginning to feel the economic impact of Western civilization. They are also becoming more reflective and comparing the new, material world with the old, spiritual world.
What does this mean for their way of life?
Chinese people feel eager and determined to break through class barriers and improve their social mobility. But at the same time, they feel anxious and helpless because they are not able to change the political environment.
My artwork demonstrates the life of modern Chinese people: the inner conflict between the individual and society and the juxtaposition between spiritual poverty to material enrichment.
