Observing people on the move in Hong Kong. I made this a central theme for my HUMAN BLUR HK series.
I explore places where I´m as a photographer am the only static person watching the passing people. A stream of kinetic energy that has to be captured. Human energy communicated as a blurred motion. People scurry about aimlessly, no one takes notice while I´m taking my images. The movement can’t be stopped, however, it can be captured with the camera. Blurry silhouettes give the viewer only an idea about people in streets and public places, on events and train stations. In this “somewhere” the shadow passers move with partly dissolved contours. The blur makes people anonymous and hide their identity and personality.
I am interested in the abstract element of humans, the reduction to the form, combined with light and colour. The silhouette as a graphic element, dematerializing the people. Reducing the human personality to superimposed layers with a play of light and shadow. Passersby as actors in blurred sequences, without beginning and end. Existential questions turn up: Whereto the people aspire? When will they stop? For what purpose? How easy do individuals lose their personality in the moving crowd? Do they follow a certain path?
In my series I reduce humans to blurred silhouettes, making them no longer identifiable. People become abstract figures. I am continuously working on the HUMAN BLUR series since 2002 and have exhibit my work on several international Art Fairs and Galleries.
