Eha - portraits of my mother
The series ‘Eha – Portraits of my mother’ shows the photographer’s mother in unusual situations, poses and attires, hinting at a mysterious, cinematic narrative.
Eha’s unsmiling face, severe expression and often direct engagement with the camera suggest a deeper purpose and mood. Is Eha an actress? If not, do the layers of complexity suggested by the series serve to hide or reveal?
The backstory – of a widowed, epileptic woman newly suffering from depression – is about therapy enacted through fantasy and imagination, where exhibitionist personae helped bring the real Eha back to the surface of life.
