Brazilian Carnival. Ecstasy, catharsis.
During the few days of liberation, one forgets the other world, fast-demanding world, of silences and closed signs. The violence of modernity, with its hardening workdays, and lines of unemployment seems to give way to the force of the affections of those who play, carefree, in the streets. Such is the Carnival of fantasies and excesses. Brazil's most famous fest is sung, documented by photographers, painters, videomakers, becomes art and occupies the white cube.
However, there is a moment, sometimes short, sometimes obvious, when the melancholy of life from before invades the air, freezing, for a split second, the gazes, the sighs, the bodies. Like a breath, a momentary Ash Wednesday.
In this other "carnaval", the drift. Another carnaval, which is actually the carnaval all the same.
