Grounded

This project explores notions of identity and physicality in participatory photo meme games of fads. These specific fads are ones that, unlike other meme games, require the physical presence of the person in the photo itself. In this ongoing series, the body of the person is abstracted from its "meme" context, so that we can explore the physical & psychological aspects of human presence in digital meme culture. The series is comprised of embroideries on paper, an abstraction of the original memes themselves. The series is called Grounded, because it attempts to give back a sense of physicality to a digital phenomena in which human presence is abstracted into simply another digital element. The first two series in this ongoing project are "Planking" (seen here), and "Owling" (to be uploaded soon, but can be partially seen on Instagram).
