Polish Girl at the Remembrance Ceremony of the Battle of Arnhem, NL, 2019

Large crowds assembled to remember the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem. Unable to get a good view of the site of the "Herdenkening" ceremony in Arnhem, NL, on Sept 20, 2019, I walked around the perimeter photographing both the participants and those who had come to watch, many from the UK. I chose to submit this single image from the event because of the penetrating gaze of the young woman. While others in her group were engaged in watching the ceremony, she stands as a sentinel to history, asking questions with her eyes which are very difficult to answer.
