Cartomancy

Cartomancy is fortune telling with cards. This series is a collection of fortune telling cards - not based on tarot (though tarot is a form of cartomancy). The images included are selections from the series, which will eventually have 50+ images, which will be made into a deck of fortune telling cards. I'm fascinated by the way people search for meaning in their lives, and clues for what to do, or what will happen, in a variety of divination practices. Whether it's tarot, astrology, seeing a certain bird, or some synchronicity in the book they're reading or the tv show they're watching. And once found, how these small things can change our lives as we internalize them. As a young person, fascinated by photography, design, and armed with an X-acto knife and rubber cement, I would make my own combinations of images. Then I found photography, and all these decades later, technology allows me to combine elements digitally, and it's an extremely fun way to work with models, and computers. All elements of the photos are people/places/things I photographed, there is no stock photography. Most of the images are semi collaborative with the subjects. Some idea, hope, prop, notion, or outfit works its way into the final meaning of the card.
