De Thuisbasis (Home Base)

In this series I have followed veterans for a while who are no longer able to live at home due to their PTSD. They live in a place in the north of the Netherlands where they are guided in daily functioning and it offers them a safe place among other veterans. For me as an Afghan veteran it is a rather personal project. The veterans often feel misunderstood, so it is a little bit easier for me as a fellow veteran to get close to them. It was also sometimes confronting. I once ran into a old friend who was admitted at this place With my photos I want to put this place on the map And as a portrait photographer I focus on the people and gave them a face.
