I have been photographing since I was 5 years old, for more than 50 years. Photography has become a natural part of my life. I photograph to remember and to show others my good and bad memories. A kind of a diary.
"Such is life 1-5" (Swedish title Sånt är livet 1-5" deals with my life and a long road trip from Stockholm to places far north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden. A trip that I did during the period after a difficult divorce. I traveled to process the grief and to clear my mind. I traveled to photograph what a middle-aged man saw when he realized he had grown old.
I work a lot with diptychs and triptychs in my pictures to make the viewer stop for a while and seek their own meaning with the picture.
I also photograph some written texts and messages in my pictures. They are often important for the context. I have translated the texts contained in two of my pictures into English. Of course, in an exhibition, the texts should not be included in the pictures – the texts should be displayed separately on signs.
"Such is life" is also the title of a popular Swedish song from my childhood. A sad song about all the ways in which life and love can lead a man.
Important sources of inspiration for me are the Swedish photographer Gerry Johansson and of course Lee Friedlander, Anders Petersen, Daido Moriyama and Robert Frank.
