“I compose my photographs to achieve what I call a Balanced Tension. That is, there is a balance to the composition in terms of form, structure, light and shadow, and texture. But I look to introduce a fourth element to add a tension, something to interrupt the composition. This element can be in the form of a diagonal that rakes across the photograph, a shadow, form, shape, or texture that causes the photograph to “hang” before the viewer like a tightly wound clock spring or web.”
