In Between

We’re used to seeing a million things everywhere we turn, so suddenly seeing simplicity, seeing single things, instills wonder. These images extract elements from their normally complex backgrounds in order to surprise and delight the viewer. Patterns, shading, and lighting add an alternative visual complexity, though, and thus contribute to an ambiguity, a response that hesitates uncertainly between a strong independence and a fragile loneliness.
