Mountain Pilgrimage: after the old masters
Project info

These images from Huangshan and Wuling Shan in China began in a study of 1500 years of Chinese landscape paintings, often monochrome ink and brush drawings. Intrigued by the different ways of showing distance and the deep influence of Taoism and Chan Buddhism, as well as the long tradition of copying the masters, I journeyed to their mountains to experience the challenge of seeing and photographing as they had painted.
