The Get Down
Project info

The Get Down is a photography exhibition by Annette and David Guy. This is a depiction of the Omaha Jitterbugs movement to bring back and teach people of all ages and backgrounds how to swing dance. Swing dancing has a rich history dating back to the 1920’s during Harlem’s Renaissance with big jazz bands, fast-paced rhythms and dances to go with them. The renaissance produced some of the most famous musicians in American history like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Cab Calloway to name a few. We were invited in by the Omaha Jitterbugs to capture the sights and sounds of music playing in the night over the last few months. When you look at the images you can almost hear the music in the background. We will continue this project bringing in more types of music and dance in our community. These photographs were part of a joint exhibition that my wife and I had in Omaha.
