Stillness
I kept myself still in the forest,
Listening.
The rustle of a thousand leaves,
Moving.
The wind carried their sounds to me.
The happenstance way their branches held them.
Everything attached to something else.
The lingering smell of bark and grass as if rubbed together.
Heady I am inside.
Thinking to become a tree or a leaf.
Kept still in the forest,
So still I stayed.
When it came time to leave I never really did.
Wet leaves in a black sea I am now.
Floating with other leaves and branches.
White and black.
Looking up at you.
The poetics of photography inspired this series.
Sitting close to a large manmade pond I was entranced by the water’s movements and decided to gather some fallen leaves and toss them into the water. I quickly took these photos with my Leica D-Lux camera and was further fascinated by the photographs I captured. A man noticed and came over and asked if he could throw more leaves into the water and I very happily said yes! Beautiful photographs! I took a few more photos of the trees reflections within the water and a few lingering leaves.
