Rise Up: the Sudanese Revolution
Project info

Between April and June 2019, Khartoum was the center of a historical social experiment: the peaceful protest sit-in in front of the General Army's HQ to request a democratic government transition. After more than 30 years of dictatorship, the revolution had begun. These images were taken the days immediately before the massacre of June 3, 2019, which put an end to the sit-in destroyed by the paramilitary forces of the RSF. Few weeks after the initial shock, the famous "one million march" finally paved the way for a transitional government with the participation of the civil society. Thanks to this revolutionary process, many artists and activists - who have remained in the shadows for many years - had rediscovered and found their space and role in the Sudanese society.
