In my outcomes I have aimed to raise awareness of consumerist habits, by creating a satire out of society's obsession with materialistic goods. I have taken inspiration from Jessica Craig Martin as she often plays with composition by cropping out the recognisable features of celebrities and the rich so they cannot be acknowledged or glorified. Similarly, I have begun to adopt this approach when looking at fashion consumerism by focusing on the mid section of the outfit to reveal accessories that I want to highlight. This is all while the subject poses proudly, with the reassurance that their tasteful spending is receiving some recognition when in reality it is becoming demonised. Ultimately, I question whether these added luxuries are vital for ‘survival’ or whether they are simply a means of showcasing wealth and privilege.
