The series Approach is an ongoing project focusing on the Dutch landscape an in particular the Dutch skies. Moving out of the city of Amsterdam in to the peace and calm of a village next to the coast, I became acutely aware of the pressure the city exerts on the surrounding landscape. Around the clock dozens of airplanes make their final approach on Schiphol International Airport. Like fireflies flying from the darkness to the light, the planes make patterns in the night sky, sometimes heretic when approaching over the sea, but the closer to the airport, coming together in a single file line. In the series I explore the typical 'natural' Dutch landscapes, the dunes, canals, dikes and polders that surround Amsterdam, and the dramatic anomaly overhead. It's a testament of a changing landscape.
