Lucky Land

The Canary Islands, also known as "The Lucky Islands “, thanks to Greek myths where they talked about islands "located in the west, beyond the Columns of Hercules" are one of the favourite tourist places by Europeans, attracted by their paradises that invite to escape and rest. Beautiful and particular for its volcanic origin, they rise above the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean, displaying the magic of an archipelago unique in the world for its biodiversity and its subtropical climate. Inspired by the beauty of the characteristic landscapes of the islands, and looking to get away from the classic landscape photographs, I decided to make a series using materials from the natural environment of one of these islands, Gran Canaria, that go unnoticed in the eyes, either by its size or the role that they are usually given, insignificant, as a unit. Lichens, mosses, stones, shells of various fruits, trunks, leaves of Canary pine, dried leaves, flowers, sand, shells, earth... among other small elements, chosen and arranged on an acetate plate and subsequently scanned, to form landscapes unique that could well be part of the ancient Greek myths. With these photographs I intend to value the small details that are part of the characteristic landscape of this island and create photographs that take us away from the perspective of the traditional genre of the landscape making them look like pictures, looking for timeless, aesthetically beautiful and stimulating results for the spectators.
