A Day at the Races
Project info

Horse racing draws a unique set of people, from casual observers to die-hard bettors, from horse owners to touts, from the glamorous to the frumpy. And the Hippodrome d'Auteuil on the western edge of Paris is one of the best places to find this diverse group of fans. These photos were taken at the Qatar Arc de Triomphe race, the high point of the season, and they are the beginning of a project to capture fans at tracks wherever I travel: people who love gambling, partying and horse watching. The cover photo won first place in the "Culture" category in the 6th Edition of the Pollux Award sponsored by the World Photography Gala Awards, and resulted in my being named "Photographer of the Year."
