Your Earth Transforms
"Your Earth Transforms"
The project „Your Earth Transforms“ questions our perception of change. It aims at making visible how sensitive our earth´s crust is. The earth´s crust is a combination of solid rocks, a formation which seems safe and stable, yet it is sensitive, affected by constant movement and change. As global temperatures increase, glaciers are melting, leading not only to rising sea levels. While the glaciers melt and become lighter, the crust rebounds as the weight of the ice decreases, providing the potential for an increasing number of future earthquakes, landslides and eruptions. What we see today could no longer be the same tomorrow.
The project „Your Earth Transforms“ shows a cross section of different mountain ranges, including the Alps, the Cascade Range, the Rocky Mountains, the Himalaya and the Karakoram. The images display their respective shape at a certain moment in time, based on renderings by Google Earth from various satellite imagery. Yet, within this static frozen moment in time, there is a sense of change and movement.
One likes to believe that it is possible to hold on to a status quo. Like holding on to the idea of a solid formation of rock, a foundation which will stay exactly the same for generations to come. But there is no status quo. The earth - our world - is in a perpetual state of flux.
