Cambodia and Vietnam in Portraits
Project info

Nearly 2 million Cambodian's were killed between 1975-1979 at the hands of the Khmer Rouge. Just years before, a two decade long war ended in Vietnam, where an estimated 2 million civilians and upwards of 1 Vietnam soldiers were killed. I traveled both countries with empathy and a deep respect for their distinct yet tragic histories. Along the way, I found myself increasingly drawn to older faces with untold stories and, I suspect, buried pasts. I was also taken in by each countries exuberant youth - perhaps less mindful of a difficult past - yet joyfully curious, and occasionally wary. These portraits attempt to capture a small part of that generational experience.
