MyManeNarrative - Celebrating the Journeys and Empowerment of Afrocentric Hair

MyManeNarrative is a photo and audio ethnography series celebrating African Americans embracing of natural hair styles, especially the Afro, as a symbol of Black Power, Black Love, Fashion Freedom, and a Healthier Natural Lifestyle. This series started in 2016 and continues today as efforts are made to eliminate discrimination (institutional and self imposed) toward Afrocentric hair styles. In a series of formal portraits, candid snapshots and recorded interviews – visual and audio – photography Greg Clarke (CG Lawrence Photo) has set out to capture and portray the vast realities of untreated locks. From social constructs and reactions to personal triumphs and implications, each mane carries its own bold and beautiful story worthy of celebration.
