From the asphalt road leading through the state of Nevada, I suddenly see a desert endlessness, on the edges of which there are colorful flags and a handwritten sign indicating the entrance to Black Rock City. It is at this point that the world with which I was well friends ceases to exist.
In its place suddenly appear images taken from childhood dreams, fairy-tale literature or, if you prefer, from science fiction movies, and I am enchanted by the sight of them, I stop the car among 35,000 standing here and similar to my "motorhomes" to desert dust, start the journey to a wooden figure, visible from a distance, several dozen meters high, called Burning Man.
Today, the Nevada desert is visited by over 70,000 enthusiasts who set up an alternative, utopian city for the week-long event. Money is not used here, nor is anything that comes from the commercial reality we know. The idea of this unique phenomenon is based on ten values, alternative ten commandments, which suggest, among other things, universal participation, sharing, giving without waiting to receive anything in return, on total, unlimited self-expression.
