Hong Kong Zebras
Shot shortly before the 2019 unrest. Ethnically, 92% of the population of Hong Kong is Chinese. The Filipino and Indonesian make for some 3% each. About 1% is white, 0,5% is Indian or Nepalese. On a Sunday you see the Filippino girls who work as nannies and have their only day off, flock to the streets by tens of thousands. Some of these pics are shot on a weekday, some on a Sunday. And there's always the tourists, of course. This is the Hong Kong population in neatly frozen slices. Waiting for the green light, disciplined as if the British were still here. But, most of all, for me as a photographer: they looked like wonderful, colourful staged moments, just put there for me to shoot.
