True Grit
Project info

The Great North Run is an arduous half marathon from Newcastle to South Shields. In 1981, its inaugural year, it was dubbed a local "fun run". It is now a major international athletic event. However the images in this project illustrate the true grit of the "non-elite " competitors showing the effort, endeavour and determination involved in covering those 13.1 miles. Having competed in the first 15 GNRs I know from personal experience that "Fun Run" is a slight misnomer!
