"le confinement dans mon quartier" - "The confinement in my area"

L’idée du sujet me sauta aux yeux lors d’une sortie jogging autorisée en ce début de confinement. Je courais dans ma rue et découvrais mes voisins dans différentes situations et occupations dues à celui-ci. Le titre était là ! « Le confinement dans mon quartier » A quelques centaines de mètres de chez moi, je découvrais une diversité riche : variété d’habitations, de styles de vie, et de personnes. J’avais déjà noté et apprécié cette pluralité qu’offrait ma ville. Mes choix techniques photographiques devaient être simples et efficaces. Je décidais de prendre un seul objectif fixe (un 35 mm) qui m apporterait légèreté, discrétion et ainsi proximité avec les personnes. Quant au format, j’optais pour le carré qui accentue la sensation «d’enfermement », lui-même déjà présent à travers la répétition des lignes. Afin de ne pas perdre le naturel de la situation, les photos furent prises sur le vif et jamais mises en scène. Je fus agréablement surpris par l’accueil des riverains rarement hostiles à ma démarche photographique. De part cette période nouvelle et étrange que nous vivons tous, l’échange et la solidarité semblent être de mise. Samuel CROIX The idea for the subject became obvious as I went jogging at the beginning of the confinement. I was running in my street and at the same time I was discovering my neighbours in different situations and occupations due to the confinement. The title was there ! “The confinement in my area”. A few hundred meters from home, I was discovering a rich diversity : variety of the houses, of life styles and of the people. I had already noticed before and appreciated the plurality that my town offered. My photographic technics must be simple and efficient. I decided to take only one fixed lens (35 mm) wihich would bring me lightness, discretion and proximity with the persons. Concerning the format I opted for the square which increase the feeling of “imprisonment”., which is already present through the repetition of the lines. In order not to loose the nature of the situation, the photos were natural and never posed. I was pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome of the neighbours who have been rarely hostile towards my photographic approach. Because of the new and strange period we all live, exchange and solidarity seem to be natural. Samuel Croix
